Comprehensive Pain Center- Dr. Mark Matsunaga, M.D.

What I appreciate about Dr Matsunaga is that he teaches you about your body. He encourages you to understand specifically where your pain is coming from so he can give you the best outcome. He is very experienced and explains things thoroughly. He really works with you to help relieve your pain and gives you several options so you can have the best outcome .

I’ve been a patient for over 5 years now and knock on wood. All of the staff are respectful, kindhearted. I know ppl aren’t perfect and make mistakes but I can say I’ve never had any issues or problems with anyone that works there. They answer every time I call and respond quickly They listen to your needs and are very understanding and helpful. Not one of those places where they just write scripts and don’t care about patients actual medical issues. They are very concerned. I live in Middle River and they are in Columbia I will take that ride any day cause I know they have my best interest at heart!

Without going into detail, Dr. Matsunaga did what he was supposed to do, get you involved in your pain management. It was proposed that I try opioids (Oxycodone/OxyContin) which I dismissed. That's fine. What is absolutely unacceptable is being treated by his NP, initials GK, like I was a 14 year old abusing the medication which has given me my life back. On the 1st 2 times seeing her, she was abrupt, cold, and inflicted an accusatory tone and stare. She made me uncomfortable. The 3rd visit with her, on the 28th day of my 30 day supply of medication, she told me that some office hack's report read that I wasn't due for a refill for 4 more days. I would have run out and had to go to the ER. I told her that could not be possible, it must be a mistake and I'm going to run out. She patronizingly told me to "Take a deep breath". She's kidding, right? SHE NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT MY CHART, AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN I PICKED UP MY LAST MONTH'S PRESCRIPTION. She was accusatory of me, cutting me off with a defensive and condescending loud voice. Telling me I should "never need to worry about running out" and that I should "learn to manage my medications". I manage more in one day than she does in a week. When people are at their worst; in chronic pain, depressed, and looking for a medical professional to be there for them in a time of need, with knowledge, kindness and understanding, as a pain management doc or nurse should be, I found the opposite. Maybe it's me, but I don't think so. My experience with her was unfortunately an absolute and unmitigated trainwreck. Maybe it was just a bad day. Don't go there.

For over 2 years my nerves have been compressed in my neck and back causing extreme pain in my head, neck, and shoulders all the way down through my arms to my fingers. I was not getting any relief from any of the doctor's treatments until I met Dr. Mark. Dr. Mark takes his time with you. he does many different tests to find the answers. he worked with me not wanting to take any opioids. He and his staff have helped me a great deal. I am doing so much better since I have been under his care
